Hi Tony,

Got a wee problem. Been happening since the day I signed up on this site.

When I click the little symbol of an arrow pointing at a page [View newest post shortcut] in front of the post title, it ALWAYS takes me back to the first entry of the first page no matter how many times I've followed up on a thread.

I only bring this up because some threads move quick enough between logins that I have lost my place & usually end up reading old material or missing new material.

TIA

Hi DeprecatedDiva,
I'm having trouble finding or understanding where the [View newest post shortcut] is.
Did you mean [view posts since last visit]?

No. Once you click on [view posts since last visit] (or you choose to visit each forum individually), each post that has new/additional entries has a little arrow pointing at page icon next to its' title.

A picture is worth a thousand words:

(still can't get the image to upload!)

It seems to work for me.
Are you using the back button to get to the page with the link?

Nope..... Unless you mean when I used the back button to check before posting a reply?

Hmmm....

As for the [View newest post] issue, this is the only site this is happening to me. Now I'm confused. :?

Hi DeprecatedDiva,
The link takes me to the last post of the topic as I expect it should.

What browser OS are you using?

Can you try to reword it.

If you "View Posts Since Last Visit", infront of the topic title there is an icon of a page with an arrow. Hovering on it the title is "view newest posts" which should take you to the latest post (as I understand). but when we click it it takes us to the very first post.

e.g. the link for this thread ... http://www.csscreator.com/css-forum/ftopic10838.html&view=newest

the &view=newest has no effect.

image attached

I'm trying the image again. & Here again is the description .....

Open a forum. The newest postings have a visual 'flag' the to left of the post title. That 'flag' is an icon of an arrow pointing at a little blank page. When you hover your mouse over it, the words "View new post" appear. When you click this icon, it is supposed to take you to the beginning of the NEWEST entries in a thread (post), not back to the beginning of the thread.

Let me try the image again......

I've never actually used that button. I just open the forums with an orange icon, then view each post with an orange icon. I can easily sift through junk I've already read and get to the new post.

Being a member of various fora around the www, I find that button extremely useful. What can I say? You can call me efficient or lazy. Either way, that button is EXTREMELY useful when a topic is moving like gangbusters and ten replies appear every fifteen minutes.

I use the forum like TPH i.e. just working from the Index Page where the 'last post' icons work as they should. Whereas you DD work from the 'View posts since last visit' page, in which the 'view newest post' icon does not work. The confusion is not, I think, with the icon, but with the fact that you do not work from the Index page (which is your prerogative of course).

Life's a b*tch and then you die!

That's probably it RTB. But I've been spoiled by other fora around the web wherein that button functions in both the index page as well as in "View posts since last visit" Laughing out loud

Okay, guess I'll just have to get used to that......

that button on the forum index page doesn't work for me either. Checking the link, both use the same query string component, view=newest. Maybe its a guru only feature Smile

Could very well be Chris. I had already checked them as well.

I just decided to live with it. Sad I try really hard not to be a troublemaker since I don't know squat about php.

This forum as a whole has helped me so much already that I can live with this one minor annoyance..... Wink

I looked the post above this one (about attachments) and noticed the little arrow saying View Newest Post.

Upon clicking, I was taken to the first post :?

Hi Guy's.
It is working for me, could you be experiencing a cache issue?

I can't find "View Newest Post" so I am assuming you mean "View Latest Post".

If you clear your cache and still have problems with it please post the link to the from and to pages.

This is the link it follows:

In a sub forum main index the icon title attribute is "view newest post" and does not actually link to the last post made but to the top of the thread.

In 'view posts since last visit' the icon title attribute is 'view latest posts' and does indeed take you to the last post entered in the thread

Oh I see - sorry. The link did not work when I checked back then, which I took to be the link (and page) that the original post was all about. Hugo's in a world of his own now that he's another year older. Some people can take major life events like birthdays in their stride, but clearly Hugo is stressed and tired (it is 2am after all) and needs a few days to recover from the shock of not being 30 any more Laughing out loud

Wow! It's not often I start such a ruckus amongst gurus! Laughing out loud

& My two cents' worth:

"View newest post" is not the last post nor is the first. It is the first post to be viewed since last visit. Its' icon is located to the left of the thread.

"View latest post" is the last post of a thread, regardless of how many posts have been made to a thread since last visit. Its' icon is located to the right of the thread.

I'm confused again, did I in fact unbelievably get it round the wrong way Shock sub forums are indeed 'view latest posts' or is Tony playing subtle mind games with us and swapping the phrases around as soon as any one clarifies them :-k or is this just how addled ones mind gets when one hits 31.

DD the icon is to the left of the thread title isn't it, although there is a second one that is to the right of the last posters name Laughing out loud.

Regardless I think Roys subtle dig may in fact be accurate and that I do inhabit a world of my own, but it's a pretty fine one endless long sunkissed beaches beautiful girls tending to my every whim whilst I type away on my 17" powerbook with satellite link underneath a shady palm tree gazing across idyllic calm blue waters with the waves gently lapping at the shores edge, ah here comes my cocktail, so to you Roy.

Tony I know your not a teetotaler so whats the problem with the word for a mixed drink, your next task sort out the naughty word list and prune it right down Oups

Jenson Buttons got 2nd place on the start line hasn't he, should guarantee a place on the podium but for the fact that you know his engine will blow up on the last lap Laughing out loud

I thought I'd agreed it's 'latest posts' you know the one that is to the left but right of the last posters name if viewed when and only if from the perspective of a previous visit not being cached until the post is actually viewed and then only after one has back buttoned to the previous entry where it will then be called newest and likely be to the right of the left hand title underneath something else vague, please tell me Tony's still not clear on this

My world is permanently manic and unstable, even though I have a business to run and a family to support. I've tried the sunny beach thing many times, but I just get bored and sleepy and start thinking about all the constructive, exciting or thrilling things that I could be doing with my time. Yet here I am on a sunny Sunday morning, chuckling and tapping away on a keyboard. I must be mellowing in my post-30s years. I'm certainly rambling in a literal sense. Maybe I need to get the barbie out and have a few beers while I struggle to watch the race on a sunlight-covered TV screen.

Tony - have you sorted it yet, only a topic can only take so much confusion and stupidity before it starts to destabilise the entire forum. We've been talking about having a new 'chat' section for a while now - can you decorate each new topic with white padding and put a lock on the door? ...I'll feel at home then Smile
