Whilst this menu and its background images seem to view fine on 15 and 17 inch monitors. Someone with a 19" says that the text appears on the bottom bevel of the background cell image and in some cells it repeats double:
Can someone please tell me if they can see the problem , or what the answer might be?
http://www.sensibleweb.co.uk/test/asi/includes/menu.htm

the class="menu" code is:
a.menu:link{ font-family: Times New Roman,Georgia,Courier,serif;
font-weight: bold; font-size: 10pt; color: #FFFFFF; text-decoration: none; padding-left:10px; display:block; }
a.menu:visited { font-family: Times New Roman,Georgia,Courier,serif;
font-weight: bold; font-size: 10pt; color: #FFFFFF; text-decoration: none; padding-left:10px; display:block; }
a.menu:hover { font-family: Times New Roman,Georgia,Courier,serif;
font-weight: bold; font-size: 10pt; color: #FFCC33; text-decoration: none; padding-left:10px; display:block; }
a.menu:active { font-family: Times New Roman,Georgia,Courier,serif;
font-weight: bold; font-size: 10pt; color: #FFFFFF; text-decoration: none; padding-left:10px; display:block; }

Thanks

Phil

menu display trouble in 19" monitor

It won't be the size of the monitor (I'm on a 19/20 at work), it'll be their browser probably. Do you know which browser it was?

You know you're a geek when you try to shoo a fly away from the monitor with your cursor.

menu display trouble in 19" monitor

Thanks djomp

They have just upgraded to NS7 but it also happens in their version of IE 5.5, which is why I thought is was the monitor and possibly resolution?

menu display trouble in 19" monitor

The 19" monitor has its fonts setting under 'Display Settings' in Control Panel, set to 'large 120dpi'

Once changed back to normal 96dpi the problem disappeared.

My question now please, is how do I design the menu and cell to cope with that. He cannot be the only one with large on the font setting.

Regards
Jackie

menu display trouble in 19" monitor

Ooh, tricky.

I suppose you could split the cell into three parts - the top bit (where you don't want any text), the middle (with text) and the bottom (also no text).

Then you split the background image into three parts; the top bevel, the middle bit with no bevel (well side bevels), and the bottom bevel.

Pop the images into the cells, making sure the one in the middle has the background-repeat property set to repeat-y so if it gets bigger the background will fill out the cell.

background-repeat: repeat-y;

Now you know what the problem is it's easy to test with, just whack the font size up and see what happens!

You know you're a geek when you try to shoo a fly away from the monitor with your cursor.

menu display trouble in 19" monitor

Thanks very much djomp.

You certainly seem to have thought out an ingenious answer but it is a fair amount of work.
I may go back to background colours or do it as images and find a good mouse over menu
I wonder how FrontPage and it graphical navigation menus that I have been using for ages cope with this - or do they ignore the problem?
