The CSSCreator site is undergoing a major overhaul. This is a place we can post ideas for the redesign such as ideas for logos.
Hopefully as a community we can come up with some good ideas and get some valuable feedback from members.
At this stage everything is up for grabs as far as the design goes.
Ideas for new features not design or graphic based can go http://csscreator.com/node/34264

Good idea

"So as I see it I could set up a competition and have everyone choose the one they liked."

I'm game!

Have YOU said Hello yet?

I've never heard of

I've never heard of Chocoflop before. Smile
I like the colors you used a lot, it does mimic appcreator a little bit though. Not sure if that's a good thing, bad thing, or irrelevant. One thing I've thought about is incorporating the brackets used in css. I've tried a couple different things, but haven't done anything I really like I have been a little swamped lately so I haven't had much time to work on it. Good work Smee.

Hehehe...I'm not really surprised. But it seems to be very powerful and opens in a blink compared to the reputations of others which apparently take a shower and a cup of coffee Smile

Aaaw, thanks Downtap - and yes, I'm not sure either.

I think it's been done, possible by someone who posts here occasionally. I seem to remember something like {CSS: liquify} - hints and tips site - but can't google it up  I had it bookmarked on my PC but when it died at Christmas I lost a million bookmarks like that which I rarely used but knew they were there.

Just adding something to the mix, thanks again Smile

Hi Guy's,
Thanks for submitting ideas it is excellent.
I like the colour although I like lots of colours.
At this stage in our design by community project, we should keep throwing in ideas and see what response we get.
I think the font and colour change from the CSS to creator in the logo is too extreme. May look better reversed.

How about we start a new thread for the design.

At the risk of jumping the

At the risk of jumping the gun a little bit, I had some free time this morning, so I thought I'd throw together a semi-rough idea for a logo I had in my head from a day or two ago. The idea was, that to me css is the seed or foundation for beautiful design. To me, proper coding/blended with a great design is the beauty. I'm a big fan of simple wordmarks, so the type is pretty simplistic (Trebuchet/Cambria). I also liked the thought of an earthier/friendly feel. Not something cold or techie. Thought that could help with direction for the 'theming' of the site. The slight blue/brown gradients are something I thought could extend across the entire header, similar to the gradient that's on the top now.

I'm not very sensitive when it comes to my design work. I understand that everyone has different tastes.

Anyways, just a quick thought/idea, no big deal.

I could maybe try that over the weekend since it is reasonably simple even for my graphically challenged self Smile

I was thinking a new thread would probably be a good idea. Maybe you could start one for us with a link back here?

It seems we're open for business. Sooo...here's my thoroughly inept rendering of the wine (much shorter to type) and silver idea*.

Unfortunately you're going to have to use a lot of imagination, but I've included bits to help. The font is Optima and if this inspires anyone with better graphics skills who wants to join the fun but not put their thinking caps on for initial concepts, feel free to muck around with this.

Concept:
1) CSS is built upon valid, semantic HTML, hence the check background. Banner only, the rest of the site would be that colour, (perhaps a shade lighter**), but plain.

2) CSS is the strength of web site styling, therefore the strong wine. The skilled (he)art? Red again.

3) CSS flows easily and smoothly (cough, cough) - like mercury - throughout the site creating the desired design. 'Creator' should be shiny silver as in the 'graphics' pic.

Eeerrm...
The wine line underneath could hold the menu if wider and I've included some button ideas too. The silver clip shows how the silver could be used for lines, but you probably won't want to waste that much space on lines.

The Search bar should probably just be a deeper cream with the red line around or indented like the current one, but Chocoflop's "stroke tool" is 'coming soon' (stop laughing you lot! Tongue ) so I had to make it a different colour so you could see it. If in fact it stays there, but the .com leads the eye over to it. To my mind anyway.

I did a version with the .com vertical at the end but the dot just fits in there.

So the buttons are too big but I had to use an online button-maker. The gel buttons might be an overkill with the mercury and might be better 'flat' - my imagination only goes so far...though I'm rather fond of this cream/off white one.

* Tony I didn't realise until much later that AppCreator had the wine, still there's something to be said for "theme-ing" *grin*

**Personal preference here but I find a flat white background with black text hard to look at all the time, particularly late at night which is when I'm here most. I would always prefer a slightly tinted background.

Well...I thought I did okay...

What can you expect from someone with NO graphics knowledge and a program called Chocoflop? Laughing out loud

Something else to mull over anyway...and a little bit of mulled wine never hurt anyone. Bigger pic of banner attached.

Silver graphics and "I agree" button are to be found at the Belight site.

Hmmm...Imageshack have changed and made these pics clickable, but it only takes you to a pic of the same size so don't bother.

Do we have any design constraints? For example, do the ads have to be at the top, or can we put them anywhere?

Hi Cupid,
I was hoping to not get bogged down with detail at this early stage.
Mainly focusing on the logo with the site to follow a bit further down the track.
If you need something to work with then yes the ads would be best kept where they are.
Some pages may have 3 columns.
The reply form will be below the posts.

I quite like simple themes that are not too busy like http://drupal.org/node/406006

Make it possible to skip

Make it possible to skip back to the "recent messages" screen from the bottom message in a thread without having to scroll all the way back to the top, first. A copy of the menu at the bottom of the message list, for instance.

Set font size on the body element to 100% and size all other fonts in ems or percents for useability.

Make it possible to go directly to the first unread message in a thread when the thread has more than one page.

Get the html and CSS validating on every page and go to a strict doctype. Might as well practice what we preach. Wink I realize this can be hard if you are going with a CMS product.

Yes I realized that as soon as I posted, but that thread has gone to two pages and I never look at the second because it is such a pain. And I don't know how to delete or move my own posts on this setup.

So I thought I'd brazen it out and hope no one noticed. Maybe one of the mods can move it?

And I don't know how to delete or move my own posts on this setup.

As I understand it, only the mods can move a post and we can only edit/delete it if no one has used the "reply" button on it. Once someone has "replied" to a post, the edit function is no longer available to the author of that particular post - which is probably as it should be. If we can access it, we can also only delete the text, not the entire post. Sorry, I used your reply button Smile

If you look back through a thread where you made several posts you'll probably find some with and without the edit button. For instance if I want to quote something from the post before the last, I will use the reply button on the post I want to quote (if it's still available) rather than the reply button on the last post.

On the other hand, if the reply button isn't available on the post I want to quote (because a later poster has used it), I usually copy the whole of the post, then hit the latest reply button and paste the copied text into the bottom of my reply box so I can refer to it. Roll on new forum! Smile

Well I did that and a few other things, though someone better than I would have to sort out the spacing on the third one. I do like the C in that - font is Big Caslon. I think the silver would look great on the wine check background, pity I can't get anything near an approximation Sad but you might think that background is too heavy.

Then I thought of something else so it's attached too and the font is FertigoPro, (freebie from My Fonts), but I gave up on the .com because I didn't like anything I did and ran out of inspiration.

I think that's me done actually, unless you've got any requests on those that I've put up.

As I said, if anyone else wants to use these for inspiration go right ahead. I don't have the skills or experience to take it further but at least I've put in something that pertained to my original suggestion Smile

Well that's different Cupid!! Smile I've been staring at it for a minute and it sort of grows on you. I like the use of the typewriter font and the code in the CSS though personally I would probably prefer a more structured font for the CSS, I can see it from the point of view of moulding the code too.

But hey! I'm sure Downtap will agree it's nice to have some more company here - well done Smile

The new design's bright and cheery, though it's a pity about the orange Tongue

Good idea to use the code behind too and it actually brings up a question that I had thought of previously.

That's because it's minified on the server before being sent to the browser. The stylesheet I have locally doesn't look like that.

Thank you gary.turner for your input. Your points are well received. My main reason for my coding preference, is screen space. I hate scrolling through sooo many lines of css that's formatted like you suggest. So, i simply dont. Its just easier for me, not to say it will be for anybody else.

Wow, didnt think submitting a logo would bring so much controversy. Maybe we should get back on point here.

Laughing out loud Great! I sometimes go and look at your code because I know it is written to standards - doesn't often help because I don't understand half of what you use, but having it "minified" doesn't help me at all I'm afraid Tongue
