Taseful replacement for banner advertising?

Is there such a thing?

I have a new client that want's a banner for another site he owns on the new site. Is there a tasteful way to do this? Or an alternative that doesn't offend designs out there?

Or is it just me that finds them tacky?

It'll depend what the banner looks like. If it's designed to look like the rest of the site it's on, I don't see how it would be tacky.
