When I first joined the

When I first joined the forum I used a different image and when I went to change it I tried to delete the old one and upload the new. It didn't work, but I can't remember if I got that error message. I eventually worked out that I simply had to specify the new one without doing anything about the one that was there. In other words, it would replace it. I didn't have to delete the old one first. Don't know if that helps.

Hi mihirc,
I checked out the file system and everything looks fine.
I also tried changing images on another account and that worked.
Could you try again sometime and let me know how it goes.

Hi,

Hi,

well, i tried again, with the same problem, though the error appears to be different now.

* The selected file /tmp/tmp_DLOQkE could not be copied. * Failed to upload the picture image; the pictures directory doesn't exist or is not writable.

This came in a red box, near the menu.

//EDIT: Well, i will go home and try this, but i dont think is a problem with my workstation here...

Hi mihirc,

Are you using Firefox?

I tried with this account on firefox and it failed, then I tried another account with Opera and it worked fine.
Looks like I have some testing to do.

another try

Just to make things more interesting I tried in IE7 twice and it worked both times.
So it is starting to look like something firefox is making a mess of.

Then I tried csscr in ie7 and could change the image but not change it back.

Not very logical to me.

cache issue?

I think this may be a cache issue. Smee had the same problem, and a forced refresh brought up the new avatar.

See mihirc's avatar's server header:

Shouldn't that last modified date be something in the last few days? As is, the browser cache is not updated because the file is not newer than the cached image file.

Tony, I ran into something like this once before with DB supplied objects. I don't remember the specifics, though.

cheers,

gary

Hello, Sorry for the late

Hello,

Sorry for the late response all, was out on a 2 day trip on the western coast of India. Anyways,

How does cache affect an image getting uploaded? as in is this some kind of server cache we r talking about? cause like every designer i have a habit of hard refreshing every hour or so...
And i have had the same problem, at both places, workplace and home also. Plus i tried IE that i have never ever used to view this site before, it also came up with the same issue.

Hope your trip was enjoyable Mihir Smile

As usual I've confused things by posting some stuff relating to this over in this thread.

I could unload a new avatar without the error messages you were getting (using FF), but I thought it hadn't accepted the change even though it said it had saved it. The new avatar didn't show at home even after logging off (FF ticked to clear cache), however as Gary pointed out, a force refresh did fix it. I was also able to change it back again.

@mihir: About the error

@mihir: About the error message, I don't know. I thought you had managed to upload once without effect.

cheers,

gary
