Hello,

I cannot get this to look right in IE7. When I put a UL list inside another UL list, the line spacing does not look right. It looks fine in Firefox and Opera though.

http://www.aurorafxstudios.com/test_brakeboss/about.htm

Has anyone else found a way to get around this in IE7, without screwing up how it looks in the other browsers?

Thank you in advance.
Jesse

You've nested it

Had you bothered to validate your code your problem would have been revealed.

You've nested it incorrectly. Try this instead:

  • Hooks up in less than a minute

  • Eliminate uncertainty and guesswork

  • Allows full stroke application to provide an instant, accurate visual check of:

    • Brake stroke on all brakes

    • Brake lights

    • Audible air leaks

    • Service lines

Trimph is right, but this

Trimph is right, but this seems to catch most people, and it caught me more than a few times. Finally I understood that the only legal first level descendant of OL or UL is LI. Anything inside either of these elements must therefore be wrapped in the LI start and end tags. Put it another way, the only legal child of UL and OL is LI.

But I never had to embarass myself by asking about it here because I always validated my code first and the validator always pointed the error out.

Regarding validation, when I

Regarding validation, when I go to http://validator.w3.org/ and put in the address of the site, "http://www.aurorafxstudios.com/test_brakeboss2/index.htm" (i just changed it, use this one) it says "Sorry! This document can not be checked." Am I doing something wrong? I have used the validator several times on other sites before with no problems.

After trying the validation, I came here to get help because I was in a rush to fix that error for my client. You both burned me because you assumed I did not even try the validator. This is only my third time posting here, and I already feel the warm welcome.

However, thank you for your help with my markup; I appreciate it. I am fairly new to web development, so I apologize. If you could help me as to why my URL is not working with the validator, then I will not *waste* your time.

If you've tried validating

If you've tried validating and have a problem, say that in your post. We can't know you've run into any problems without you telling us. Many people here won't bother to look into a question as soon as they realise the code isn't valid. Its an indication that the questioner hasn't done the simple things to help themselves before asking for assistance.

Fair enough. How do I go

Fair enough.

How do I go about validating my HTML? Am I missing a tag in my markup?

Thanks in advance.

You need something to say

You need something to say what charset you are using.

e.g.

That one won't work on your page - that is the charset the validator is trying and then detecting problems with. You could try iso-8859-1 or perhaps win-1252.

By far the simplest way to validate your html and your css is with the Web Developer Extension to Firefox. Well, actually if you are using Opera just hitting <ctrl><alt><V> is even faster I suppose.

Also you should get the latest version of the HTML Validator extension for Firefox as well, that will do a pretty good job of validating your code locally if you enable the SGML validator algorithm enabled.

.. but I could be wrong.

There's shortcuts for the validators via the Web Dev extension too.

How to get help
Post a link. If you can't post a link, jsFiddle it.

OK, but you just can't leave now. It's in the rules or something.

You have to berate the next guy that comes in and giggle a little bit.
