I have two clips from YouTube, that I'd like to embed on a webpage. The code YouTube offers works OK in Safari - but surprisingly not in Firefox.

You can see my try here:

The code YouTube offers (it's for the first clip on the page above) looks like this:

I already tried the Flash Satay technique found here:
http://alistapart.com/articles/flashsatay

- but this does not seem to work on this page either.

What can be done?

Maybe you haven't got the correct add-in installed.

No You cannot auto install

No

You cannot auto install it. It has to be a manual install from Adobe, because they want your blood (your email addy) so beware the small print and make sure all the junk mail options are off.
