Things I Learnt

Setting comments to "disabled" stops any comments. Useful for locking new topics (eg announcements and stickies).

Setting comments to "read-only" in essence locks the topic - the comments still exist but no more can be added.

Read&Write is default - users can add comments.

There are two ways to reply to toopics - add new comment and reply.

Add New Comment comments on the original topic; the comments are unique and singular eg not linked to other comments.

Reply is used for replying to comments. If you delete a comment that has replies, you WILL DELETE THE REPLIES AS WELL.

Comments disabled will give a blank forum icon. Read&Write gives a blue pencil. I think orange is for hot topics. Still learning!
