1.. you accidentally enter your password on a microwave

2.. you haven't played solitaire with real cards in years

3.. the real reason for not staying in touch with your friends is that they don't have a screen name

4.. you'd rather look all over the house for the remote instead of just pushing the button on the tv.

6.. your boss doesn't even have the ability to do your job.

7.. you read this list, & keep nodding and smiling

8.. as you read this list, you think about sending it to all you friends

9.. and.. you were too busy to notice that there was no 5

10.. you actually looked back up to check that there was no 5

11.. you're now grimacing because you know you are guilty of all these things Wink

You know you live in 2006 when...

I try my hardest to keep a small element of ludditism alive - I've never sent a text (have no idea how to, only made 2 phone calls on the mobile in the last year).

I have no car kit for the mobile - if someone rings when I'm in the car, tough. I'll ring 'em back when I've finished driving. I tried using one of those bluetooth ear thingies a while back (not mine, the husband's) but couldn't get it to stay on my bloody ear.

I also have no idea how the whole instant messaging thing works - nor do I care.

I don't have an MP3 player although I will admit to having a few MP3s via iTunes on the mac - but it's ok because I never listen to them.

I do have a PSP (well ok, I bought it for the husband but he's away a lot) which believe it or not I've managed to hook up to the internet just to see how many sites look crappy in that format (most do).

Bah humbug!

My strategy is so simple an idiot could have devised it!

9 and 10 was best.. I almost face-palmed when I realised I had looked up to check for the 5.

So I am normal after all being that i don't have...
- an iPod
- cable tv
- a cell phone without the net, ring tones, camera, etc.
- an xbox360
- 80 gig worth of MP3's on my computer
- a GPS system for my cars

but I do have plenty have plenty of books to read (which is becoming a lost art). Laughing out loud

By the way, the original post by Lorraine was great! Laughing out loud

I had to agree, reluctantly. Then...
ragamuffin and fberriman mentioned books.
I have to agree with them, too.
However, I am concerned that lace-making, crochet, knitting and embroidery are also becoming lost arts.

Sorry larmyia - done it again

Do you know what? GPS in-car navigation is my pet hate. Why can't people just use maps for god's sake! The damn thing breaks down and they have no idea what to do any more.

Also - I hate the way it's stuck on the windscreen obstructing the view.

(Oh I'm a right old grouch aren't I?)

It's not sexist, I read a book about women and men's pre-wired brains, and it's to do with women's lack of spatial ability - women have problems converting 2d things into 3d, which is why they have trouble reading maps. This is why women like GPS, as it's easy to see where you are/where you're going, from a 3D perspective.

You do know you're talking to a pilot, don't you? Able to navigate her way "spatially" (2d, 3d, 4d, upside down... whatever) to anywhere she wants to go - that ain't no ordinary woman.

It's not women I see mainly with GPS systems - it's generally men (a lot of men do rather like gadgets which may have something to do with it).

Actually, my hatred and general distrust of GPS systems comes from flying. Back when I used to do a fair bit in the late 90s before children, marriage and new house bankrupted me - there were quite a few idiots who would go flying in light aircraft completely reliant on GPS systems with either no map at all or a map that they hadn't looked at prior to flying (not clever since the GPS thingies weren't too reliable back then).

Plus there were those who'd set it up incorrectly and would go blundering through airspace in which they didn't belong (like Heathrow's approach path - I kid you not).

So there's me - I like maps, I like 'em a lot. I read maps for fun (seriously). I don't need no steenking machine to tell me where to go!

My strategy is so simple an idiot could have devised it!

The same could be said for the other great navigational pursuit of seafaring, all techno now but take that away and you have charts, slide rules, sextants and when it's night little twinkly things high up above you, truly one of the great skills wonder how many "sailors" could cope if you took all the gadgets away.

Wrong! I not only grimaced, I actually had a hearty laugh. =)

[edit]
Just browsed through the comments.
Isn't it ironic that they were made by people in the computing industry? Or maybe I'm just in the wrong side of the world. Hehehe.

But I fully agree, books are the best. Smile

I have to agree, I used to read a WHOLE lot more than I do now. That being said though, since I have started with Web Development and a bit of programming, I have bought many books. My wife is always giving me a hard time about buying new books on these subjects. She won't even let me go into a book store alone anymore.

I keep on telling her that the books I am buying are only going to make me better at what I do at work. (that doesnt' usually help though, she still gives me that look)
